Pentecost Air Conditioning Is Proud To Help Support and Advance Autism Awareness

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

Meet our little guy Robert. Robert is grandson to Steve and Nephew to Justin. Robert is an autistic child, but he is also one of the coolest kids we know. He has a beautiful imagination, an infectious laugh, and a great sense of humor. He is also a very well behaved young man. When people first meet him though, those are not the attributes they hone in on. Unfortunately there are still a lot of uninformed, or misinformed individuals that do not understand Autism. It’s also unfortunate that a lot of what they believe they know is only garnered from news broadcasts covering extreme circumstances of a negative nature. Robert and a vast majority of other children living with Autism are wonderful children who fill their family and friends with laughter and joy when they share their unique perspective on the world. We would encourage those with an open heart to educate yourself on the truth of Autism. You may just find that you’ve learned something new as well. With hat in hand, we would like to offer up some links below to follow that have good information. There will also be a condensed excerpt from Wikipedia to follow as well hitting on some key facts.

Thank you for your time.

The following is a partial list of “A.S.D.” characteristics but far from complete:

  • Repetitively stacking or lining up objects
  • Trouble with social interaction
  • Impaired communication
  • Restricted interests
  • Repetitive behavior

Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by troubles with social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. Parents usually notice signs in the first two or three years of their child’s life. These signs often develop gradually, though some children with autism reach their developmental milestones at a normal pace and then worsen. Autism affects information processing in the brain by altering how nerve cells and their synapses connect and organize; how this occurs is not well understood.Autism is included within the autism spectrum (ASDs), along with Asperger syndrome, which is less severe, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified. For these reasons children living with Autism are often referred to as being under the “Umbrella of Autism”. Symptoms vary from child to child in severity in different areas. Children may be referred to as “Severely Autistic” in extreme cases. In cases here they are able to cope and with coaching interact somewhat normally with their peers are often referred to as “High Functioning”. Early speech or behavioral interventions can help children labeled as “High Functioning” with autism gain self-care, social and communication skills. Although there is no known cure, there have been cases of children who have recovered from the condition. Not many children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood, though some are successful. An autistic culture has developed, with some individuals seeking a cure and others believing autism should be accepted as a difference and not treated as a disorder. Globally, autism is estimated to affect 24.8 million people as of 2015. In the 2000s, the number of people affected was estimated at 1–2 per 1,000 people worldwide. In the developed countries, about 1.5% of children are diagnosed with ASD as of 2017, a more than doubling from 1 in 150 in 2000 in the United States. It occurs four to five times more often in boys than girls. The number of people diagnosed has increased dramatically since the 1960s, partly due to changes in diagnostic practice; the question of whether actual rates have increased is unresolved.
